FRESH TROUBLE WITH THE JUGO-SLAVS
SHIRKING GOVERNMENT WORK. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 4.. The majority of tlie Jugo-Slavs who have been required to perform national service under the War Regulations appear to have decided to defy the authorities. A very large number of these aliens were, given leave of absence from the various .works when the epidemic . was'prevalent and at Christinas, as they did not return to work, the Commissioner (Mr, Cullou) announced that they would be given until January 27 to return, but there has beeh no response, mid it is known to the authorities that mauy have "disappeared" with the intention of doing no more Government work, while others aro sheltering behind medical certificates which the authorities believe have been rather easily received in some quarters. What course of action is to be taken to deal with these.defaulters is now being considered. . , This morning information was received that ft parly of Jugo-Slavs employed on the works "near Paeroa "struck work, but no details aro yot-tohond.
