Sir Cecil Moon, who has resided in Dunedin for the past two years, will return to England in a few weeks' time. He will proceed Homo in the steamer Ayrshire. | Mr. J.\H, B. Coates, formerly general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, was re-elected to the directorate of the Auckland Electric Tramway Company, Ltd., at the recent annual meeting in London. A Press Association cable message from New York states that Nat Goodwin, the American actor, has died at the age of 62. Among those who returned from Palestine on Saturday was Captain W. Hardham, V.C., of Wellington. Mr. J. D. Lynch, Mayor of Greymouth,. accompanied by Mrs. Lynch, is visiting Wellington. Sergeant Stuart Marshall, New Zealand Divisional Signal Company (son of Mr. A. Marshall, of the Dunedin Lands Office), who has been awarded the D.C.M., "went ahead with two forward observation officers and superintended the maintenance of communication from .them to brigade headquarters. Later in the day he went through an intense barrage and established .visual communication. His conduct was splendid, and owing to his efforts the artillery were able to render great assistance to the infantry." Sergeant Marshall left New Zealand with the Eleventh Reinforcements. Mr. S. J.'Collett, formerly Government tourist agent in Christchurch, who has just returned with a recent draft of soldiers, will resume his old position shortly, relieving Mr. J. P. Robieson, who has been in charge of the Christchurch office for the past fourteen months. Lieutenant W. H. Cocker, private secrotary to the Chief Justice, in a letter to his father, Rev. J. Cocker, Christchurch, states that at the time of writing (December 15) he had been appointed economic instructor at Sling Camp. He added that every New Zealand, soldier had to receive some instruction in economics before returning to New Zealand. Mr. 0. A. J. Rutherford, headmaster of tho HighclilY School, near Dunedin, has received the appointment of headmaster of a school for white and halfcaste childron at Apia, Samoa. Mr. Rutherford will .leave New Zealand early in March.
