HE NOXIOUS WEED "LANTANA"
Sir,—l have read with interest Mr. 1). Hebenton's letter on the noxious weed, lantana. Having spent a good portion of my time in Fiji, I win give some information as to lantana, beinpr a curse there. All over th island of Viti Levu this shrub has got a firm hold, and it ■was only quite recently that the Fiji Government introduced a parasite to attack the lantana berries as they formed. Lantana will grow cnywhere, and the plirub when in blossom is very pretty. It is to bo hoped the Department of Agriculture will immediately take steps to prevont (his weed, being planted in gardens as an ornamental plant, for if it on<\a gets started the;.birds..will sooii carry the 6eeds all ever the country, arid before very long it would be the samo curso to New Zealand us tho Cnliforninu thistle.—l am, etc.,RALPH SENIOR-PARTRIDGE. Taihape, January 30.
