INFLUENZA CASES
AN- AUCKLAND EXPLANATION. Telegraphs-Press Association Auckland, January 31._ • Tho statement. attributed to the Minister of Public Health in a telegram from ■Wellington, published yesterday, to tho effect that a week or two. ago he was alarmed at seeing there were 92 influenza, •notifications for tho' Auckland district and that 89 of these wero sent by tho same medical practitioner, is particularly misleading. This is illustrated ».V ail 'examination of the returns covering a number of infectious diseases in the • Auckland provincial' district. Of 9notifications 89 were cases which occurre<l at Onelninga during November. Nouhcations were not forwarded to the District Health Officer by the doctor in charfcfl until about tho second week in January. When the returns for tlio wcck end«l Januarv 13 were forwarded to the Public Health' Department in Wellington, the Sfl cases were included in" the. number of notifications for that week, and an explanatory footnote was added to tho effect that the S'.l cases occurred in November mid were not fresh cases. Apparently the explanation was overlooked .by the authorities in Wellington, and by the Minister when making public the statement.
