WHAT TO PAY?
■- A' GILBERT] AN SITUATION. If parents wished-to enter a girl itt the primary department of the Girls College to-day tliere are no means by which they could ascertain what tne fees would be. This Gilbcrtian position has been brought about by the discovery that for some time past the primary department at the college has been run at a, financial loss, quite contrary to- ..the law, which stipulates that ,it. must .pay its wav. ' The reason for this is -that there is a free primary department attached to the. Normal School (adjoining 'the college grounds), and -there- is no ■reason, therefore, why another one should be" carried on . in-the college -unless _it pavs its way—which it has not been* doinl*. When'the subject of fees-cropped ■up" at -yesterday's meeting of.the governors •it was palpable to all that tliey could not name the fees until they saw how manv pupils intended ■ to attend . 1)0 primary classes. In this quandary tho governors decided ■to allow matters to take their course, and to hold a speoinl meeting to fix the fee* after- the college ■was reopened. - ■
