There was a big field in the Maiden Knee. Philomela and Statuette were tho best backed, while Astinomo also had a good following. The two favourites were tlio quickest to begin, but Philomela sdon lost Jier position, and Volito joined Statuette. The latter always had Hie measure of. tho field, and she won easily from Astinome, who beat Philomela by a head, liono Hose, alter beginning badly, was close up. Tho scratching pen was kept busy in the ])iill?.nce Hncfy Hnndicnp, only six liol-ses facing the. starter. Battle- Array and Willys Knight were the best backed, and tho former finished up labourite. Tho pair were kept in tho rear, till near Pno Straight was entered, where they wont out from the field. Both were hard ridden for a furlong, but Willys Knight failed to finish on, and Battle Array won by a couplo of lengths. Koyal Battery W Bor U ealis, !
