MR. LA TROBE'S APPOINTMENT
A TECHNICAL BOARD PROTEST. At -the monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Hoard on Wednesday the- chairman (Air. Thomas Forsyth) formally announced that Mr. W. S. Lα Trobe, Director of the Wellington 'iechiiical College, had tendered his resignation couseuuent upon his mipwutment ae Government Director of Technical Schools. Mr. forsyth said that the circumstances of the appointment had shown once more tjie sympathy the Department had for the local board in their ead plight, and also their wonderful foresight in leaving the announcement of the appointment until late in the recess, when they were aware that the school had to reopen on Febmiuy 1. The representatives of the board on the Technical College ' Board had protested ngqinst tho procedure, especially in view of the work entailed upon the director at tho opening a new year. The answer ,to" their protest had been that the question of technical education was an urgent one for the whole of tho Dominion, and tho concerns of one school could not bo considered when the interests of the Dominion were at stake. Mr. Forsyth heartily congratulated Mr. La Trobe on his appointment.
