TAKAPUNA MEETING CUP WON BY WINDORAH. (By Telegraph-Special Correspondent.) Auckland, January 29. Though showers fell during the night the Tnlcapunn Jockey Club was favoured with fine weather for the first day ot its meeting. In suite of th° rain the going was firm. There' was a large attendance, and the totnlisator registered £48,745, as against i' 40,279 for the corresponding day last year. In the Trial Handicap Rangi Arolia and Mary Bruce fought out o close finish, the former winning by a head. General Stephen, who was favourite, finished third, about two lengths away, in the Zenlandia Handicap, Taiemai and Minister were the popular fancies, but neither of them were even very dangerous. Kereone ran well from start to' finish. Mill o' Gowrie was leading as the field approached the straight. She then died nway, and Byllus, who came through from the. hack with ft great (urn of spTJrd, fought out a hot finish with Kereone, Stilts being a good third. Ihe Hauraki Hurdles was won easily by Master Lupin, who ran 'confidently, and headed Notability and Lady Lyddite halt a mile from home, winning by. several lengths with a good deal to spare. Feiidoon and Golden Gnifton lost their riders. The Cup was won by Wtndoran. Teka', who was mado «. warm favourite, was a close eecond. At various stages of the race Unclp Ned. Killnrd, All Talk, Tinopai, and Cynic showed up prominently. Windorah put in his challenge as the horses swung into tho straight, and kept going long enough to bent Teka, who was running very strongly at the finish. Hector Gray eteered Ohineirairua to victory in the Ferry Handicap, beating a big field decisively. The winner held a good position throughout the race, but had to stretch himself in order to stall off Flowing Bowl's determined challenge in the. straight. The Calliope Handicap was a gift to Hetua, who shot to the front at the start, and won hard held. He was a very pronounced favourite. Master Lupin won the Orewa Hurdles ns easily as he won the Hauraki Hurdles earlier in the day. \Vith a iniie gone, Master Lupin and Tenacious took command, and half a mile from home Thrace moved up 6niartly. Thrace managed to head Tenacious, but could not xet alongside Master Lupin, who ran faultlessly, and won without being hustled. ' In the Stewards' Handicap Spiuiner, ihe favourite, went to the front, and was never headed. Downham eanio at him on entering the straight, but could only get second place. Lightning, tho,third horse, ran a good race, and Athens II was fourth.
