TV, M'Ewan),'; and Councillors C. P. Brotikelbank. W. Cox, T. Churchoußo, J/TCyle, D. M'Kenzie. E. Tovey, S.' Newland, and J. M'Dougall. i ■ ■ •. I The District n?i)lth Officer forwarded' certificates requiring improvements to be effected .to premiere in Bay Street and Eichmond Street. 'The Town Clerk reported that he had.served notice on the owners to hare" Tepairs' eflVcted within fourteen tiny*. Tho Town Clerk's action was approved. The Wiiritfi'.mn 'Borough. Council forwarded a copy of the foflowir:ff resolution:—"That in view of.'the sarjy v re-' patriation of our soldiers, this council urges upon the' Government the, necessity of taking timely steps to ensure their proper transport in order that no such regrettable incidents .shall' occur as occurred at the end of the South African War, and that in particular overcrowding of. transports bo strictly., guarded against.":. A deputation from tho .Petone Cricket Club waited.on tho;'council, and asked that the slipop grassing on the Potone Tiecreation Ground be kept, off the playing aroii. Tt was resolved Hint the matter be referred to the Reserve Committee for consideration and report with a view to having the playing area fo.nced in. Mr. ,T. G. Cnstlc, trustee of the Boys' Institute section, waited nn tlie council in respect, to thp. council's deinand for thp payment of rates due on the section, failing the payment the section to be sold. It was. resolved that subject to Mr. Castle agreeing, to assist in the mutter of vesting the section in the council ■ all proceeding.-; previously taken by the council >bc nbandoned. Mr.- FT. An.ple.vfU'd (gasworks . manager) reported that there vas a shortage of coal, only about 40 tons liein? in stock for carbonising, and suggested that if by the end of tho -month'- there was no pi'os-nect of larger shipments earning forward the council should consider, the, advisability, of cutting out the street lighting nnd ajso requesting the shopkeepers to uso as little as.possible.
