SERIOUS SITUATION AT THE CLYDE MOVEMENT DISAVOWED BY THE UNION By Teleeraph-Press Aesdciation-Copyrieht London, January 25. The situation at the Clyde continues to be serious, but there is no unanimity among the workers. It is stated that the union disavows the movement, and the employees of many large establishments on the Clyde have decided to remain at work, pending the union's official instructions.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Kec. January 28, 9.35' p.m.) London, January 27. There are twenty thousand strikers on the Clyde and four thousand in Edinburgh. Nearly a hundred thousand are idle in Belfast, demanding a forty-four week. Eighteen thousand ship repairers in London are etriking in support of the demand for an increase of 155., making a minimum of £o per week. Strikes liavo brought to a standstill work at the docks in Cardiff, Newport, arid Swansea'. January 29, 0.10 a.rnO London, January 26: The boilermakers, shipbuilders, and blacksmiths, after a fresh interview with Mr. Home, decided to recommend the calling of a. meeting of the full Joint Negotiation Committee and a conference of the unions with a view to obtaining suspension of the unconfirmed memorandum of December 24, and Secure wages equal to those of the longer working week. Sir. J. E. Clynee strongly urges the holding of a thoroughly representative industrial round-table conference to devise nieans to prevent etrikea, Hβ points out that any changes towards better-, ment in any given trade should be considered in relation to the claims which ■ as a result would be inevitable in other occupations and the relation of human claims of the whole community.—Aus.N.Z. 'Cable Assn. POLICE THREATEORASTIC ACTION UNION'S AUTHORITY NOT EECOGNISED BY GOVERNMENT. London, January 25^ The Policemen's Union has issued an ultimatum threatening drastic action unless an inquiry into the dismissal of three of the Midland Eaihvay police is granted before midnight on Monday. They uleo dermnid the reinstatement of the men, pending the inquiry. The Home Office has informed the Policemen's Union that the Government does not ..recognise the union's authority. —Aus.-N.Z. The A T ottingham and Derbyshire colliery owners have withdrawn the notices to the men whom they intended to discharge to make room for demobilised soldiers. January 29, 0.10 a.m.) London, January 26. The shipyard workers at Belfast are to strike to-morrow for a forty-four hour week.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Aesn. . THE PARIS TRAFFIC HOLD-UP (Res. January 28, 7.25 p.m.) Paris, January 25.
