' > Speaking to; a delegation from a conference of local authorities of,tho /Union sitting' at Cape Town to consider the question of. payment of the epidemic expenditure, tho Minister of the Interior,- Sir Thomas Watt, said that though the mortality figures were not yet complete fully 11,000 Europeans and 127,000 of the coloured population had died of the disease: 'The Government would bear four-fifths of the expenditure. / .. ' The conference, however, decided, to adhere to its original demand for the whole of the expenditure.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
