ADELAIDE ROAD FATALITY
MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE,
-Arising out of the death- of Denis Diver at the Wellington Hospital on November 9, following his being knocked'down by a hospital motor-ambulance in Adelaide Road, a charge of manslaughter was preferred against Arthur Sinclair, driver of the ambulance, at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., yesterday. . At the inquest, which was concluded on December-9 last,: the Coroner, Mr. W. G. Riddell,.S.M.J returned an open verdict that the.deceased died at Wellington on.November 9 from injuries received by being knocked down by an ambulance driven by Arthur Sinclair, who was in the employ.of tho Hospital Board, i '
The charge against Sinclair is that on November 9, by reason of his negligent driving,-of a motor-ambulance in Adelaide Road, he did unlawfully kill and slay one Denis Diver, thereby committing the crime of manslaughter. Inspector Marsack, on behalf of the prosecution, stated that Sinclair had not reported, but he understood he was in tho i South Island. He desired His Worship to issne. a warrant for his arrest.
Mr. Ward, who represented Mr. M, Myers, Sinclair's counsel, stated that"> there had been a misunderstanding over the accused's appearance yesterday, and there was also the question of, his' fare'. He was arranging to send the. necessary money to > cover Sinclair's journey to this city.
Inspector'Marsack then withdraw tho application for tho warrant, and agreed to an adjournment till January 31..
