He was proud and happy, and in the name of the whole French nation.he wished to ■■' -.. thank tho New Zealand soldiers for what they had done in the war. The New Zealand troops had done wonderful work in France, and their part in the war would never be forgotten by the French people. The formation of the. Returned' Soldiers' Association was a most worthy idea,' and he congratu- / liited those responsible for tho splendid work already done. After the war of 1870 the French soldiers immediately forincd similar institutions, and these •lived to-day. They were needed, for they kept together those who had fought together for so long, and lie . expressed tho hope that the New Zealand Association would long continue to do. the very excellent work it was now performing. Ho had received many ~' badges during his career, but this one ]ia':would cherish for ever. (Applause.) Before,'' leaving, the General shook hands with all those then signed his name in the club's membership •hook, after which ho was shown over ■the club's premises.
