Sir. James Allen loaves to-day on a short visit to the Hawke's Bay district. He will visit Dannevirke, Waipukurau, and Napier.

The' Hon. D. H. Guthrie is leaving on kti extended tour of the South Island, taking his departure from Wellington either this evening or to-morrow evening.

The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), who has been attending' the Prisons' • Board's metings at New Plymouth, returned to Wellington last evening.

Mr. D. A. Aiken (general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company) is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. J. H. C. Bond (general traffic manager), is also at present in • Wellington.

Mr. Arnaud M'Kellar, general manager of the Blackball Company, will arrive in Wellington this morning by tho Maori. -

Captain T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., arrived in Auckland on Monday, and will reach Wellington by the Auckland express to-day. Mrs. R. J. Seddon and Miss Seddon met him in Auckland, and are returning with him. _ Captain Seddon is accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Wood, and will ■be'met in Wellington by his other sisters, Mrs. Dyer and Mrs. Bean.

Mr. D. C. Bates, Dominion Meteorologist, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Moeraki from Sydney.

A Press Association cablegram from Sydney states that Madame Melba is a passenger on the Niagara, which sailed for Auckland and Vancouver yesterday afternoon.- .

Staff-Sergeant-Major N. Sheridan, ofMarlboroughtown, has ben mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's dispatches for valuable services' rendered in connection with the war. Sergeant-Major Sheridan left Blenheim with the Main Body draft of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, and for some time he has been connected with the N.Z. Provost. Corps in London. • '

The death took place in Masterton early yesterday morning of Mr. Hector M. Milne, second son of the late Dr. A. C. Milne, of Woodvillc. For some years Mr. Milne has been an invalid as a result of injuries received at football, and the sympathy of friends throughout the. district will be felt for tbe relatives in their loss. '
