SHIPPING SPACE FOR TALLOW
•-COMPLAINT BY AUCKLAND tr EXPORTERS.
' A large quantity of tallow is now in Auckland awaiting export, and surprise has been expressed by. exporters that no allocations ■ of. space for shipment from that port have been made in respect to two vessels which are taking ' tallow from southern ports. No space for ordinary tallow has been allotcd to Auckland for over a'year,. and none for animal tallow for about three months (says tho- "Herald").' "The matter was on Friday, brought to- tho attention of the Acting-Prime Minister by the president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Mr. RBurns. In telegraphing to Sir Jamc3 Allen, Mr. Burns stated -that-epaoo for tallow for Wellington and other southern "ports had 'been allocated in the Orator, and also that space in the Suevic for the same ports had been allotted, but that Auckland had been overlooked. Mr. Burns asked the Act- ' "ing-Prime Minister, to obtain an explanation' from tho Overseas 'Shipping Committee, and added: "We. have several times drawn the attention of the Government to tho unfair position we are, put in by Auckland not having representation on the Overseas Shipping Committee."
