Auckland commercial men bavs a reputation throughout New Zealand for being over on the alert to take strong exception to any action that they consider is prejudicial to their interests or to the port of Auckland. THE MOERAKI ARRIVES. At 9.45 o'clock last night the Union Company's Moeraki dropped anchor in tho stream on arrival from Sydney, and will early this morning be berthed at No. 16 Jervois Quay breastwork.

THE AMIRAL OBCILLE.

The French ship Amiral Cecille, bound Irom New York to Auckland and Wellington, with a general careo. cleared tho Panama Canal on November 7. The vessel is due at Auckland shortly. On completion of discharge at Wellington, the Amiral Cecille will load wool at a New Zealand port for the United States. The vesEel is coming to New Zealand to the agency ot the New Zealand Shipping 'Company. ' .

THE DURHAM'S VOYAGE. The Federal-Shire Line steamer Durham, which arrived at Auckland from Brisbane on Friday, left London on October 18. and Plymouth on October 24. with a full load, of cargo for Australia. She also had on board 700 of the Australian Main Body men who had been etantcd leave Before the nrmi6tico was signed. A fine weather trip was made to Capo Town, which the vessel reached on November 21. Owing to tho epidemic there, vessels were being coaled at anchor, and as thi6 would have been i> lengthy proceeding, she was ordered on to Durban. After spending three dnvs coaling at Durban she sailed for Melbourne, where tho troops were landed.' From Melhourne she went to Sydney with a number of troops which had been landed from the Port Lyttelton. After discharging the Sydney portion of her cargo she took on board over 100 Now Zealand passengers who had been stranded in Australia through the shipping disnute. These passengers were taken to Brisbane ia the vessel, andwhilo she discharged the balance of her cargo there, the passengers lived on shore at hotels. The Makura, -which arrived at Auckland last night, is to flail for Vancouver, via ports, on Thursday. A Press Association telegram from Auckland, savs that the Union Company's barquentine lima arrived'there early yesterday afternoon tfrom San Francisco, Sixty days -were taken for the trip. Mesßrs. ThoinaH Brown, Ltd., ad.vise that the steamer Swallow -will on Thursday receive cargo for Auckland. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Ituahine arrived «t Auckland yeßtcrday from London, via Panama. Cargo is brought for discharge at the four chief ports. The Buahine is expected at Weliington on Saturday. The U.B. schooner Georgette (757 tons) will be taken on the Wellington slip for cleaning and painting before starting to load. here. The Homeward- loading of the Ayrshire will not be started until the middle of next week. The vessel is to leave Sydney on Friday for Auckland, Oisborno. and •Wellington. Bho will arrive hero on February 12. and sail four or flvo days later for Liverpool, via Suez.- / Huddart-Parker. LtU, have received no word of when the Biverina and WeßlraIla are to return to New Zealand. The Biverina io now in Western Australia, and is not expected back' at Sydney before the end of the month. A telegraitt 'received yesterday from Endeavour. Inlet states that the barque Aratepu. bound for Melbourne, is sheltering in Ship Cove. Only one man is now needed to complete the complement of the Hiiiemoa. and she is expected to sail to-day on her trip to the northern lighthouses. Sho is taking Principal .Keeper Creamer, formerly at Cape Campbell, to Castlepoint. Other changes among the keepers are Principal Keeper Parkcs from Castlepoint to Munakau South Head: Assistant Keeper Marshall, from Castlepoint. promoted to principal keeper at Cuvier Island, relieving Principal Keeper Johnston. Line advises that she will load a full cargo of wool at.Port Chalmers for England, sailing via Panama, in about three weeks time. The Verdun is a vessel of 5C91 tons gross, built in 1917 by Messrs. Busse-ll and Co.. Glasgow, for Messrs. Gow. Warrl. son. and Co.. of that city. She is 455.3 ft. long, £6ft. beam, and 24.7 ft. deep. The French ship Duoucsne should bo ready for soiling- from Lyttelton about Thursday or Friday for Adelaide direct Tho latest charters include the Whito Star liner Tropic, (8230 tons), which- is to load at New York for Wellington, Sydney, and Brisbane.

The Honolulu Chamber or Commerce has endorsed a. nine million 'dollar plan for the improvement and extension of Honolulu's harbour to provide facilities for catering for shipping tonnage after the war.
