Batten, president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, said that be|or.e be agreed to act as district officer for Wellington he consulted the local sub-commit-tee of the Dominion Executive. The members were strongly in favour of his acceptance of the position. The subcommittee passed tlio following motion: —"That this .executive sub-com-mittee of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, while disagreeing with the method of establishment, and constitution of the Repatriation Department, and tjie method of appointment to the position of director, realises the urgency and importance of this work. The. association will therefore give its whole-hearted support to the work of the Department. At the same time the association lacks confidence in the Department as at present constituted, and will make every endeavour to carry into effect the protests already recorded by returned soldiers' associations and other bodies."
