. The Featlierston Borough Council has accepted with expressions ot regret tho resignation of Mr. A. C. Holms as a councillor, and Mr. M. B. Tait.has been nppointed to fill the office of treasurer thus rendered vacant. Councillor Holms resigned with the object of further testing public opinion concerning the reasons to be advanced against .concentration of venereal disease cases in the district, a recent public meeting having,' so he contends, placed those backing a large body of protesting residents in a fnfso position —unwittingly it is considered by many specially concerned—as to the' propaganda carried out at the. behest of numerous petitioners A number" of Wairarapa looal bodies arc indirectly involved in the question at issue, iii regard to which the lines of opinion are sharply drawn. The Wairnrapa newspapers are equally divided on the merits of tho concentration

It was reported at the annual mreting of the Mnstorton Hilieniion Society that a sum of £60 16s. M. had been expended in sick pay during the. year. Large quantities , of wool are" at present reaching the railway stations in the Wairarapa'by motor lorry. "The opening .stock sale in Masterton for 1919, compared with 1918) shows that there has been a distinct'decline in the price of stock, so far as most lines are concerned.

At the annual meeting of the Mauricevillo Lime- Company, held in Masterton on Wednesday, the annual report showed that the prospects of the company wero encouraging. The retiring directors, Messrs. W. Perry, Evan Campbell, and H. J. Booth, were reelected.
A .number of heavy drafts of cattle and sheep have arrived at the Waingawa freezing works during the last few days.
The quantity of timber which reached Masterton by rail during the last financial year was 25,544 superficial feet.
The farm of Mr. James Foreman, at Ponatahi, has been sold to Mr. W. H. Shute, of Matahiwi, Masterton. A conference of delegates representing tho various committees in the Wairarapawho undertook relief work during the recent epidemic is to be held in Masterton on Monday next, when the expenses incurred will come under review.
Tlio Wniohine River Conservator.! havo agreed to the transfer of the lense of the channel reserve from Mr. Banks to' Mr. Farley. The.v are taking action relative to overhanging willows and a stagnant pond of noxious water. Owing to the resignation of Mr. H. Dudding, Mr. Mark Mnxton was elected secretary. It was decided to agnin sell wire netting to local bodies for river, protection work, as a consignment of wire will arrive in due course.
