King's Theatre, Pahiatua, 3 p.m.—Land sale (Wairarapa Farmers'). SEEDY WOOL VALUES. PROVISION FOR APPEAL , CHIEF' VALUER TO ADJUDICATE Letters which • have passed between the Department of Imperial Supplies and the chairman of tile Auckland Woolgrowers' Committee in regard to the valuation of seedy wool were con- " sidere'd by the executive of the Auckland Provincial farmers' Union, on Wednesday. The Acting-Minister, the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, wrote stating that after considerable delay, duo to the epidemic, the report of the conference .held ill' Auckland on October 1 had. .. been printed. The deliberations of tho conference had been very carefully considered, and . instructions had been . issued by the chief supervising wool valuer to ajl valuers that very careful attention must bo given to all lines of seedy wool, so that growers might receive the full value in comparison'with clean wool of similar quality, due regard being given to yield and depreciation owing to the presence of seed; "In the event of dissatisfaction being expressed,by individual woolgrowers on any lines of seedy wool during the present season," added tho Minister, "I should be glad_ if. the woolgrower concerned,, immediately after being notified of the valuation, would appeal to this Department through his broker for a reexamination by the chief supervising wool valuer. In such cases arrangements-will be made for the visit of Mr.- Walter Hill to Auckland to examine" and revalue the actual wool about whicli complaints are made. You •will understand that the very greatest . difficulty is experienced in meeting complaints about the valuation of certain lines of wool which have been distributed weeks 'or months before;' and about which no complaint or appeal haS been madeiafc.tlie time of valuation. In,replying' to ..this letter the. chairman ;of ; ;the' Auckland : Woolgrowers'. Committee, Mr. H. C. Worsp,.'said lie ; was not ; at a|l satisfied;with the result, of the;vMiiiister's consideration.'.,of.;,the matter.-:: ''It .seems, to me," he wrote, 'Hliat; . the . suggestion ''that . Mr, Hill should adjudicate in case of complaint ' is not likely'to .lie received withenthusiasmib.v the growers ,of : this province, inasmuch as Mr. Hill's : attitude at I the') conference " was in support of, the. valuations., which, had . already been made,\and . which Vere the cause of'iiiucli dissatisfaction. The high: ",. cost of appeal for a-.:small-quantity of . wool has;hitjiertd;prevented small "grow- ' ers from formally appealing, buti; as I • presume 1 from your letter that no fee will be charged .for lodging ' a complaint, there is more likelihood of the complaints being inquired into at once, thus-meeting the. difficulty of adjust- , merit after the wool has been distributed."' Members of the Farmers'TJnion-Exe-cutive. expressed the:,opinion that it would be desirable to 'see''what,'the re- .. sults'of the '''system are this season. TlioVm'atter. was :left ■ in tlie hands of " the : Woolj;rowers' ' Committee. :
