MAKUKA AND MOEKAKI. Tho Union Company's Wellington office announced yesterday that they had received no definite news concerning the steamers that were idle at Sydney, but it. was likely that the Makura- and the Moeraki would leave there ycsterdayi In that ease the Makura. would leave Auckland on Wednesday next for Vancouver, via ports, and the Moeraki would be duo here on Monday. The Atua, for Suva, was also to have left Sydney yesterday. The Manuka, and the Niagara would follow, but what days it was not yet known here. THE MAOIII. 'It ia hoped by the Union Company that the Maori will as usual sail to-night for Ijyttelton. THE TOFUA FOR ADELAIDE. The Tofua will sail at 2 o'clock this afternoon from Wellington for London, proceeding via Adelaide Mid Cape Town. THE POUT DEJJKOX. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line's Fort Denison, which will probably load in New Zealand in April for England, was built as recently as May of laßt year by Workman, Clark, And Co., llelfatit. She is a- steel twin-screw steamer of 111,334 tons gross (7760 net.), 480.4 ft. long, 60.3 ft. broad, and 32.3 ft. deep, and is tilted with thelatest engineering and navigating appliances. Jler arrival in New Zealand ports should create some interest as an exhibit of English wartime production.
GEBMANY'S NEW MERCHANT SHIPS. Lloyd's Hegister for 1918-19 contains a "list of German vessels wliich are stated to have been launched during 1914-18, but of which no authenticated particulars can be obtained in consequence of the war." The. names of 199 steamers are given, all of which are built of steel. There are over 100 trawlers with tonnages centring around 230 tons. There arc. however, 71 witjt tonnages between 1000 mid 12,000. The two largest virsels are the TJuncheu (12,000 tons grosß), built in 1915 for Norddeutscher Lloyd, and Bheinland (11,500 tons), built in 1918 for the Uaniburg-Anicrika Line. The two merchant submarines Bremen and Deutschland. both of 1900 tons gross and built in 1516, are not included in these figures. Their length was 213 ft., breadth 29ft., and depth 15Et.

The. rain last night stopped work on the. Corinua, which now will sail to-day for Nelson and Now Plymouth.
Several ships were unable to complete loading yesterday on account of the rain, so their departure was postponed to today. Anions them is the Stella, which is to sail at noon for Duncdin, and the Man a for Picton.
Owing to delays at Napier the Port Lytteltou will now not arrive hero till Sunday.
The Ulimaroa is to sail at daylight to. morrow- for London, via Bombay. Sho will call at Colombo for coal. The only passenger booked so for is Mr. Ernest Clare, for Bombay. ■'
The Mannroa i 6 to leave Duncdin tomorrow night direct for Wellington, and after discharging general cargo will load for Auckland, sailing about Wednesday. From Auckland she will probably proceed to Thames to lift machinery for Messrs. Miller Bros., Dunedin.
The Monowai will arrive here this morning from Lyttelton, and is to sail to. night for Auckland via Napier and Gisborne.
The standardised steel ships built for the United States Shipping Board (Emergency Fleet Corporation) arc generally vessels of between 21C0 and 2400 tons. In many cases the name is preceded by "Lake," as ' instanco. Lake Auricc.
