, ALLEGED THEFT. A young woman named Florence Grown was charged before Mr. F. V. .Frazer, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday with having between October 18, 1918, and December 3, 1918, at Christchurch, oommittcd the theft of a quantity of articles valued at £30. the property of Jessie Hay. , The goods alleged to have been stolen comprised four Royal Doulton cups and 1 saucers, a pair of field glasses, a silver teapot, a silver hot water-jug, a bicycle lamp, a quantity of silver trinkets, a crystal salt cellar, a breakfast cruet, en ebony elephant, 401b. or 501b. of jam and pickles, two willow cups and saucers, plates, milk jugs, two packs of playing cards,, a pair of' slippers, a set of chessmen, a cushion, a hairbrush, a set of carvers, a market basket, blouses, stockings, and ornaments. Acting-Sub-Inspector Emerson asked for a remand until January 21. He snid there was a prospect that a further remand would then be asked for.

Mr. H. F. Q'Leary, who representedaccused, asked for bail. ■ Bail was granted in the sum of £50, one surety of that amount, or two of £25 each'.

For insobriety Aksell Williamson was finedlOs., in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment.
