$ ■ YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. ' Tho annual general meeting of the members of the New Zealand Institute of Architects was held in the Academy of Fine Art yesterday. Two resolutions of which due notice had been given by Mr. W. Crichton were, in Ins unavoidable absence, proposed by another member. ■ They had reference to the amendment of the N.Z. Institute of Architects Act, 1913, and after a brief discussion they were defeated on tho voices. The president's address was then delivered. In tho afternoon the following papers were road: "The Scientific Side of an Architect's Education," by Mr. W. S. La Trobe, M.A.; "The Importance of Construction," by Mr. W. A.' dimming; "Tho Responsibility of Architects in Respect to Towii-rianning," hv Mr. S. Hurst Seager; "Note's on Theoretical and Practical Design," by Mr. .Basil Hooper; "Advertising in Relation to the Profession of Architecture in New Zealand," by Mr. C. Reginald Ford; and "Insulation," by Mr. G. AY. Allsop. Mr. C. Reginald Ford read a paper, tho title of which was "Advertising in Relation to the Profession of Architecture in New Zealand." Mr. Ford said that while at present it was contrary to tho rulo for individual members of the institute to advertise, he saw no reason why the institute should not advertise itself, and that this was a practice in America. Tho meeting decided to circularise all branches of the institute for opinionson the matters.

The election of officers resulted, as follows:—President, Mr. J. L. Salmond (Duncdin); vice-president's' and members of the council, Messrs. T. E. Norman Wade (Auckland), • W. P. Finch (Hawko's Bay-Gisbornc), T, H. James (Taranaki-Wangauui), J. S. Swan (Wellington), S. Hurst Seager (Canterbury), B. B. Hooper (Otago), •E. S. Wilson (Southland), Allsopp, Gumming, and Warren (Auckland), Davies and Burr (Hawko's Bay-Gis-borne), Griffiths and West (TaranakiWangamii), Dawson, Turnbull, and Page (Wellington), Collins, Hart, and Brown (Canterbury), Salmond and Maudeno (Otago), C. Lambeth (Southland) ; lion, secretary, Mr. W. Gray Young; hon.: treasurer, Mr. W. Fielding ; auditors, Messrs. Clarke and Menzies.

Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing president, Mr. Lawrence, and the members of the executive for their work during the past year.
