RIGHTS OF CITIZENSHIP DEMANDED. ■ Melbourne, January 16. A public meeting in Darwin, prosided over by the Mayor, decided to refuse to pay taxes until the rights of citizenship are secured by tho appointment of 'a Local Advisory Board.— Press Assn, [A recent cable message stated that a demonstration, consisting of eleven hundred Darwin citizens, representing all sections of \ the community, and headed by a band, marched to Government House, where several speakers denounced the present autocratic system of government, including the Administrative, Judicial, and Medical Departments. The meeting resolved to implore Mr. Watt, Acting ■ Prime Minister, in the interests of life and property, to recall Dr. Gilruth, whose autocratic administration, they said, was fast reaching, a very grave crisis; also for the establishment of a good Government, having the confidence of the residents, and for the development of the Territory. It was also decided to request the institution of a Provincial Council of five members, to be elected annually, with a recognised Secretarv • representing the Federal Government. Tho Hon. P. M. Glynn, Minister in charge of the Territory, replying to a telegram from tho demonstrators, stated that Dr. Gilruth's term of office would practically expire with the declaration of peace.
