THE CLEMENS CASE
'ATTITUDE OF THE RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION.
At a recent meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association' the case of Roy Clemens was discussed, when it was decided to support Mr. C. H. Clemens in his request for a Magisterial inquiry into the circumstances' surrounding the death, of his late son;,
' The secretary of the local association (Mr. A. Curtayne) stated yesterday, in renewing the case, that the local association first became interested in' the matter'in July,: 1918, when-'M% C. H. Clemens 'complained about-the treatment his son received whilst in hospital. The matter was then brought under th© -notice of Surgeon-General Henderson, and Private Clemens was removed to a different room in the hospital, and Mr. Clemens . expressed his satisfaction' at the action taken by-the association. Nothing further was heard till after the death of the boy, when the chairman of" the local association had an interview with MrClemens, who said that he did not wish action taken by the association,.as he was circularising the'me'mbers of Parliament. 'The matter has not been brought before the association eince by him, but the committee has taken considerable' interest in the matter and been prepared ,to render what assistancemiglit.bein'its power in this case, and 'in ••.any other . case, which affects: returned .soldiers either wdivlduallyor a-saVhole'.-
