WAIRARAPA'S PROTEST

' THE V.D. CASES. Mr. J. M'Kenzie, secretary of the! Featherston Patriotic Committee, writes:—"ln your report of the meeting held in Featherston on Frmay last re V.D. cases in the Wairarapa, you state that Mr. W. E. BidwiU's,motion was for the deputation to put, before tha Minister the wishes of the meeting, whereas Mr. Bidwill's motion was as follows:—"That the Mayor and member for the district arrange for a deputation of the heads of tho Wairarapa local bodies and the Patriotic Association to wait upon the Minister ot Defence." _~ In proposing his motion. Sir. Bidwill indicated most strongly that lie differed from the previous speakers m the elimination of tho interests of the community, as he strongly felt that m the community's interests the removal of tho men was most essential. Mr. Bidwill's remarks were heartily endorsed by the-meeting, and liia motion was carried unanimously. . "The promoters did not wish ixj tie the deputation down to any particular courso of action, but tho meeting was called to show that there was a strong desire for further action on tho part of all tho bodies which had passed resolutions of protest against these men being located in the Wairarapa, and, as stated in tho circular sent to tho chairmen of tho various local bodies, it was also brought out that, in tho interest of tho men themselves a change of location was necessary. . . "I would also ask you s to publish the fact that the lack of "proper control shown by tho guard' which brought these men np from the South Island was so fully proved at the meeting (the proof brought forward being emphatically endorsed by Mr. Hornsby, M.P.) that it calls for a.full inquiry by the Minister, and it alono would justify tho feeling in the community against; tho location of these men in any populous district. "It should also he noted that m addition to apologising' for their absence the following telegraphed thoir endorsement of the committee's circular, in particular the protest against V.D. cases being concentrated-in the Wairarapa:—The Mayor of EketaHuna, the chairman of the Eketahuna County Council, ths chairman of the Martinborough Town Board, as well as iha president of the Wairarapa Patriotia Association."-
