WAIRARAPA NEWS
The courts of the Masterton Lawn Tennis Club are to be opened on Saturday. There is a' prolific growth of white clover in tho Masterton and Wairarapa districts this year. The wet season is supposed to have germinated seed which has been lying in the ground for years. It is reported that Mr. G. H. Perry has sold his farm on the Upper Plain, near Masterton, at £105 per acre. This is said to be a record for the district. The Claims Board of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association on Monday advanced £200 to. a returned soldier in order to permit him to start in business. Fourteen applications for relief were also granted. It is expected that on- the return of the French Mission to -Wellington, M. Corbiere will visit some of the stud farms in - the Wairarapa, in company with Dr. Reakes. The Minister of Marine is to be asked to visit Castlepoint, with a view to receiving a request .from a'deputation for permission to use portion of the foreshore for tho purpose of erecting week-end cottages. ■ . The_ Masterton Boy Scouts intend spending a week in the neighbourhood of Mount Holdsworth, with a view to putting the track in order. The Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club is making an effort to strengthen its;ranks and extend the scope of its operations. ■ At the annual meeting of the Masterton Oddfellows' Lodge, the report and balance-sheet were .adopted. Bros. J. Langley and H. R. King were appointed delegates to the district conference.
