THE SHIPPING HOLD-UP
■ STRANDED PEOPLE ANXIOUS. Keen disappointment is felt by the Australians in Wellington at the _ reported breakdown in the negotiations for the settlement of the dispute which has been responsible for the holding up of steamer communication between Australia and New Zealand. Many of these people are keenly, concerned about their business affairs during their long absence in this country, and others of them are worried because funds are running low or'quite exhausted. , '< It was hoped that-in view of the early settlement in sight no "action would have to be taken to help these people, but the Government is goin<; on with the proposal to ship the stranded people as passengers on a 'trans* port, the TJlimaroa, shortly to leave New Zealand. The Aoting-Prime Minister has cabled to,the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, asking whether in the event of this ship touching at an Australian port the quarantine restrictions will be foregone, and tho vessel allowed to proceed on her voyage after the passengers have been landed. No reply has yet been re*' ceivod from Australia, and yesterday the Acting-Prime, Minister sent another cablegram requesting an early reply to the question.
