AMATEUR ATHLETICS
It has been recognised by tho military authorities during jihe pnst four years that recruits entering camp who were active members of athletic bodies immediately prior to tlio great war demonstrated their efficiency m military di ills quicker than others who had not the same physical fitness. One of the many institutions to suffer .through the culls' made on its members is the Wellington • Amateur Athletic Club, winch has been dormant siiieei.l9ls W'itn tho ending of hostilities this body v.avr intends to resuscitate amateur running in ■Wellington, and invites all old and intending members to bo present at tho annual meeting which is to be held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms on Wednesday at 8 p.m. For many years past amateur athletics has nourished in this city, and it is tho endeavour of the club to place this fine branch of snort on its pre-war standing as si popular pnstimo with the public of ■Wellington. Although many great athletes who were well known, to New Zealand will never again don the spiked shoe there is every reason to hopn that the new_ membership of the club will provide men worthy to compare with those whose deedshavo mado them famous on tho track.
