The Poles occupied positions near Bentschen (50 miles west of Posen), and sent an ultimatum to the German commander. The Germans decided to defend the positions in order to prevent the invasion of Brandenburg. Paderowski was engaged in speech-mak-ing for twenty hours, and was enthusiastically cheered by Polish crowds wailing, outside, his hotel. 11. Paderewski emphasised the necessity for staiuping out Bolshevism. Ho defined its aims as to "kill all users of the toothbrush." JI.
