PREFERENCE FOR. OUR FIGHTING MEN
Sir,— Following my letter regarding billets for returned officers, etc.,.l. would suggest the following:-—As there will no doubt be a groat'many applications for all positions, I would give preference first to officers who have volunteered throughout the war period (this, of course, applying to all men gaining commissions for efficiency), and secondly to officers of the infantry. The infantry stood the discomforts and the brunt of tho fighting, therefore reward those officers by giving tliem all positions availnble instead of giving. them to exDuntroon cadets. Let us show our gratitude by thinking first of the soldier, especially the infantrv man, who is above ail praise—l am, etc., . .. . . BE FAIR.. [While most people will agree with tho sentiment, favouring preference for our fighting men, it would be. both wrong and impolitic to discriminate in the manner suggested betwon the different branches of the service.!
