4 - THE KING'S CERTIFICATE A SPECIAL DISTINCTION ANNOUNCED Tt is announced in General Orders that the King has approved of the issue of a certilicate ou discharge, bearing his signature, to members of the New Zealand Forces who have been disabled in the war. Warrant officers, lion-cunimissioiied officer,-*, and men who have served overseas in a theatre of operations and have Ikcii discharged in consequence of disablement caused or aggravated by active service will be eligible to receive this cer- . tinea te, provided their disablement or illhealth was not due to misconduct. The theatres of operations,.for the purposes of this certificate, are defined as lollow:— (I) Western European Theatre—To include all operations in France and Belgium from August 1, 1914. (II) Eastern European Theatre—To include all operations ui (a) Macedonia' from October 5, 1915; tb) Gallipoli from April 25, 1915, to January 9, 1918. ' (III) Egyptian Theatre.-To include all operations against Turco-Germau Forces from November 5, 191-1; also operations against Senussite Forces in Western Egypt and on the borders of Granaicj and operations in Darfur from November 3, 1914. (IV) African Theatre.—To include all operations in (a) British East Africa, German East Africa, Rhodesia, Nyassaland, Uganda, and Zanzibar .from -August a), 1914; (b) .German South-AVest Africa from August, 20, 1914, to July 9, 1915; (c) Karoerun from August 24, 1914,' to Febni--nry 18, 1916; (d) Togolnnd August 7, 1914 to August 26, 19U; (e) Nigeria, on or north of v the line Sokoto-Katsena-Daura, from January 5, 1917, to May 15, 1917. (V) Asiatic Theatre—To include all operations in (a) Mesopotamia, Aden Protectorate, Arabia, Arabian Coast, Islands in the Red Sea, Persia, and Seistan from October 16, 1914; (b) Tsing-Tau from September 23; 1914. to November 7, 1914. , (VI) Australasian Theatre.—To, include all operations in (a) Bismarck Archipelago from September 11, 1914, to September 21, 1914; and at (b) German Samoa on August 3d, 1914; (c) Kaiser YVilhelm's Land on September 24, 1914; (d) Kauru on November 6, 1914. (VII) Cases not included in any of the above theatres of operations (e.g., men" who hnve served in a theatre of operations with any Allied Power) will be submitted with full particulars to tho Secretary (Mob. 5 (a)), War Office, for approval. (Note.-—ln the case of theatres in which operations have no£ concluded, the dates of conclusion will,be notified from time to time as they occur.) It is announced also that a special certificate, the King's second certificate on discharge, will be isued to men who, after'being discharged on account of disablement, re-enlisted voluntarily, and were again discharged as disabled in the war. New Zealand soidiers who were discharged before the end of 1918 may make application to the Director' of Base Records for these certificates, which will be numbered serially nnd will not lie replaceable if lost. Men discharged this year will have an opportunity to make application at the time of discharge.
