Mr. Richard Jackson, . of Masterton,' who died at the local hospital on Sunday at the ago of 65 years, was' born- at Pelorus Sounds, being the son of the lata Captain Jackson. For mauy years he was associated with his brothers there in the whaling industry, and 30 years ago lie joined the Post and Telegraph Department, and installed tho first telephone exchange in Masterton 25 years ago. He was an exccllont Maori, linguist, and a. man of good physique, standing well over 6ft. in height.
