According to the Berlin "Deutsche Tages Zeitung" the British Government has sent an ultimatum to tho Gorman Government demanding that the German troops shall prevent further advances by the Bolshevik forces. Valk and Venilen must be recaptured.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn, , . BRITISH INTERVENTION AT RIGA THE GERMAN VERSION. - (Rec. January 5, 5.5 p.m.; London, January 2. A German version of tho British intervention at Riga on December 29 says that two companies of Lithuanians mutinied, wishing to side with the Bolsheviki. The German commander refused to disarm tho mutineers, and the Premier appealed to the British, lifival commander. The latter made a pretence of bombarding the barracks, and the mutineers surrendered.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. RIGA EVACUATED BY THE GERMANS STRONG BOLSHEVIK PRESSURE. London, January 2. The German troops were forced to evacuate Riga, and have taken up positions outside the city. A battle :s in progress. -Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. AN INTERVIEW'WITH SEMENOFF (Rec. January-5, 11.5 p.m.) Chita (Transbaikalia), January 3. General Semenoff, interviewed by the American Press Agency,' said that Russia was able to place a million troops in the field against the Bolsheviki. Differences had arisen between him (Semenoff) and IColchak, who, however, had delayed definite action. Numbers of British troops are at present in Chita.
