TROPICAL STORM IN SYDNEY
GREAT DAMAGE IN CITY AND SUBURBS. (Rec. January 5, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, January 4. A terrific thunderstorm, lasting twenty minutes, and accompanied by high wind and a deluge of rain varied with monster hailstones, did great damage in tho, ' city and suburbs, particularly in tho eastern suburbs, on Saturday afternoon. Windows and skylights were smashed in wholesale fashion, and roofs were_ lifted. The water spoiled large quantities; of stock in shops and warehouses. Many Bailing boats were capsized in the harbour, and ono woman was killed by lightning nt Bondi. Tho storm cleared as suddenly as it arose, and eased the intense hoat that had been prevalent lor many days—Press Assn.
