GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET
.-'By" Teiesraph— Preie Asiiciation.'. -. , Christchurch, January 3. Business in the grain and produce market Ims. not yet settled down since' the holidays,' and there is little doing. Interest is now beginning.to be centred in the now crops, which are much more ■promising than, for : several years past. The harvest will be late, and it may bo months before any wheat is Teady for the binder. A few paddocks of Algerian oats on light land are in' stack, and others are changing colour. There will not be ■a great weight of-straw in either wheat or oats owing to tho want of rain in tho spring, but both are well headed. Some offers have been' made at about 53.' at country stations, for new seasons oats, but no business is yet reported, Oatshcaf chaff is likely to command a good price, for although the demand may not be as-great as last year the quality will be much better. The potato cMp so far is looking remarkably well, and with the low temperature this summer there is not likely to be any .danger from blight. Tho crop in, the Auckland district is an especially Rood one, and tho 'demand for, potatoes from there is n not likely to set in.aa early as usual. • lne ryegrass crop is. expected to be much smaller than vlast year's,.- but' the. whito. clover crop promises to bq greater. The cocksfoot crop should also yield: better, /.,■■ ■.■s>^— —- .:. ;Vr.. v ' -'■ ;'4
