FIRST CHANGE FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS
Sir, —We see that a class for Territorial officers is to be held: shortly at Trentham. Now, my opinion, is that all ap- ) pointments in the Defence, of! whatever f nature, officers in the Territorials. Staff i jobs, etc., should be-given, tp'relumed ; officers and men. Who has more right t to these positions? Another point: Cadets i from Dun.troon. will be given Staff ani Dointments here. Some of these cadets ; have been in the college for three and i four .years, and have never gone.'to thn t war, although aged 20 and..2l. . Why i should they be mit nver officers who have E 'nintht' and suffered in the field? In ) fact, the Duntroon course is, in my 1 opinion, nl>=nlute waste of public money. - \ boy of 17 or 18 enters, and is kept I there, for four years before being trained. Tn England before the war the Militarr : College course was eighteen months, and r pince thn wnr lv-gnu officers havfi.V=n i trained in all schools (and sent to. thn i front to lead meni in seven months; and i we know how- well they fousrht and led. . r The Puntroon bourse should bt> shortened .• to eishfrecn months, and sliould be su^3 nencl»d ■ altogether for a faw yenrs until" - ">• fichtinir men have had a'chancoMo i fill everv Staff-and other vacancy offer- > in.?. This v= » matter that, some of our 1 "ambers of Parliament should innnire r into.-I am, etc., . BE FAIR.
