Thomas Roseby, j LL.D., M.A., F.R.A.S., which took place at .his home, "Tintern." in MacpheKon ■ Street,,Mosmnn, recently.. He had been ill for a short period, and pneumonia • developed, rendering his,condition serious. / The late Dr. Roseby, who was 76 years of age, retired from the ministry six years .ago. He was a gradunte of the Sydney University, nnd abaiit 15 years ngo tliei degree of F.It.A.S. was conferred , upon him by the British Astronomicnl Society, of the Sydney branch of which he was the president on more than one occasion. He received tho honour as a result of working out the periodicity of a comet, being the first Australian to - succeed in a work of this kind. He entered the'ministry at the age of' 22 years, and was at s first stationed at Petersham. He afterwards ■ went to Dunedin, New Zealand, and subsequently proceeded to Ballarat, Victorin, from which city he was called to take charge of a Congregatioiial church at Marrickville, where he remained up to the time of his retirement from active life. On several' occasions Dr. Roseby repre- , eented the Congregational Church at conferences held in ; England, New Zealand, and in the various States of- the Commonwealth. : He leaves a v.'idow and nine children, five sons and four daughters. ■ One of his sons is Dr. E. Koseby, who is attached to the A.1.1 , ., while Alexander Roftby, an Anzac, recently returned from the front.' ' His other sons are the Rev. T. Roseby, Mr. S. Roseby, of Collington Station, and Mr. Frank Roeeby, of the. State Civil Service. His daughters are the Misses Beatrice, Mary. G. A.,- and Alabel Roseby. Miss. G. A. Roseby, 8.A., nnd Ifabel Roseby, 8.A., nr,« tl> e principals of the Redland College at Neutral Bay. He was a man of broad and tolerant views, and a firm believer in church union, for which he fought strenuously fflr many years. He was a member of the committee associated with the other churches which was working to bring this about. - : ■■• .;
