« . : OPENING OF ISLAND BAY CLUB. The official opening of the Island Bay Surf and Life-saving Club took place yesterday- at-Island J3ay in the presence of a large assemblage of people. 11l a short speech, Mr. R. A. C. Collier, the club's instructor. This was the second medal of the kind which the society had granted to New Zealand, "the fin'st one being held by Mr. G S. Hill. The club membership stood at 100 lady members'and 150 men. Mr. Odlin ■also referred to the desire for more shed, accommodation for junior members, the present.facilities being insnfficienU Mr. J. O. Sliorlantl (vice-president) and Mr. A M. I'arnell (secretary of the Wellington Swimming Centre) also spoke. ' The following are the results oi the events decided :-50 yards, • ladies, breast stroke-Mrs. Lowe, 1; Miss M'Donald, 2. 50 vnrds, men's, breast stroke—H. H. "Hind, 1; S. Heal and F. Cooch (dead -heat),- 2 Men's diving—N. S. Francis, 1.
