(By Eatellino Bennett.) ' I'ort Nelson, ■ Manitoba, Canada, the. new gateway to the Hinterland of the North-west Territories, this year's'hopedfor new outlet for Canadian, .wheat, and the end of the Hudson Bay Railway, is a wonianless town. It has'a population of five hundrod men, a, dazzle of electricity lighting its streets and buildings, and a l'png history; but not one woman has dared tho canoe. ,\rip down the Nelson River,, .which is only, reachin'B.' this'-.town/until ;the railway-! is. finished. Nelson •is one. of the 'oldest towns in Canada, and the only place-on Hudson Bay that has kept its name and location unchanged from the beginning of its hislo'ry. River and port, were named Nelson fur a seaman Who was mate of a vessel that wintered there during the year 151213. It nover had any prominence: until within the last two or three years, when, it began to grow towards a railway terminal and shipping i point. • It- was overshadowed during the early days by York, which was a trading post, and Churchill, which was so strongly fortified that it was then the equal of Quebecas a stronghold. ' t There is a luxuriohs men s club-house at Nelson, but'there aro no homes.. H probably is the only town of any import-ance-now on the Western' continent' ir which - there •is not. ono woman.—"Outlook.". \
