SMUGGLED GLOYES
A SAILOR PENALISED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, December 28. "William Steele, fireman on the e.s. Kent, pleaded guilty to the theft of thirty-one . pairs of gloves, valued at ,£lB, from the vessel, and also to selling the-same articles. He was sentenced to imprisonment for three months with hard labour for the theft, end was convicted and discharged on the other charge. Tho Magistrate declined to order the forfeiture of the gloves, as the owners could not be penalised for the act of the acsued in smuggling the etolen glove?.
