MAGISTRATE'S COURT
ALLEGED THEFT OF COATS.
The proceedings at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday were presided over by Messrs. J. W. Ellison, J.P., and It. D. Hanlou, J.Pj Fred. Hunt, a seaman from the steamer Arawa, was charged with having stolen on December 9, at Auckland, from the cargo of the vessel, twelve raincoats, valued at Xii, the property of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. On the application of Chief-Detective Boddam, accused was remanded to appear at Auckland to-day. \ Bartholomew Mahoney was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, but was fined 205., in default three days' imprisonnumt, for resisting wrest. Otto Possum, a .Norwegian, was charged with drunkenness, and, being an alien, with having failed to register his change of address. Acting-Sub-Inspector Emerson said that the defendant went to the Central Police Station on Pridav light nnd stated that he wanted a. lied. He was asked where he resided, nnd he replied that he had no residence, and did rot work anywhare. He was inebriated at the time, 6o he was put out on to the street and arrested for drunkenness. When he was searched, it was "found that he possessed an alien's registration card. Eeeently, defendant had come from Auckland to Wellington, and had failed to -register his change of address. Defendant stated that it had not been ■his intention to stop in Wellington. Convicted and discharged for drunkenness, Fossunt was fined 4(!5., with costs 75., in default seven days' imprisonment, on the second charge.
