THE UNIVERSITY RETURNS (Rec. December 27, 7.35 p.m.) London, December 23. Two Coalitionist candidates, including Mr. Hayes Fisher, Minister of Education, have been elected for English Provincial Universities.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Rec. December 27, 7.35 p.m.) London, December 23. Mr. A. W. Samuels, K.C. (sitting member), defeated Mr. Stephen, Gwynn (formerly Nationalist M.1 , , for Galway City) for Dublin University, by a large majority. Sir Philip Magnns (sitting member), Coalitionist, defeated Mr. Sidney Webb (Labour) for London University by a majority of 669. For tho National University of Ireland Professor John M'Ncill (formerly Nationalist member for South Donegal), standing as a Sinn Feinor, polled 1644 votes against Professor Conway (Nationalist), 713. Professor M'Neill was sentenced to penal servitude for life for complicity in the Easter rebellion, but was granted an amnesty—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
