Kccoiul Lieutenant Joseph James Hernog, who was wounded on November t last, and died ou December 17, was the surviving son of 11 r. Joseph Paul Herzog, of Mitchell Street", Brooklyn. Born at East Ham, London, 23 years ago, he was brought out to Wellinglou by l\is parents when he was three- years old. He received his education at Newtown and Brooklyn schools, and whs farming in the Wairarapa when he enlisted in May, 1915. In October of that year he left with the Main Body of the Rifle .Brigade, and saw service in Egypt before be went to the Western front. Until lust month ho had never been wounded. His elder brother, Corporal Charles Herzog, who left with n later reinforcement, was killed in action on May la, WIG, at the age of 21. The death occurred at I'eatherston on Thursday of Mr. Peter Jensen, who for a number of years past had been onmged in business in that town as a cabinetmaker. He formerly resided at Petone. Mr. J. S. Hay, technical engineer to Ih" Vacuum Oil Ply., Lid., has received notice that ho is to transfer to Melbourne. Mr. Hay will leave New Zealand .'shortly. v Sergeant David M'Laren, third son of Mr. J. M'Laren. of Parnell, Auckland, has been awarded the. Military Medal for' gnllairrry in the field. The recipient of the decoration left with the Thirteenth Reinforcement,!, New Zealand Engineers, and is an unniarrie*d man, thirty years of age. Another Auckland soldier who lias Iwen awarded the Military Medal is Corporal A. 0. Keith Wilson, son of Mr. Allan Wilson, of Northcote. Corporal Wilson eulisted on attaining his Iwontioth birthday, and left New Zealand with the Twenty-second .Reinforcements. Ho arrived in Prance as a private in .Tune, 1917, and. with the exception of the capture of Bapainne, has taken part in all the important engagements of the Division 6ince that date.
