The lieutenant, who is a naturalist: as well lis n flying man, assorts that lie has seen ilies mount to a, height of -070 feel, niter which they, die, while grasshoppers cling to the basket of the balloon until the air becomes too rarefied for them., when they fall. The swallows, the observer asserts, liavo a glorious time with . the descending corpses of these would-be aviating insects.
