INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC
AIR. D. M'LAREN ADDED TO THE COMMISSION. The Hon. G. W. Russell (Minister of Health) stated on Tuesday that Mr. D. M'Laren had been appointed as the third member of the Commission which is to inquire into the epidemic. The other members are Sir John Denniston (who retired recently from the Supreme ■Court Bench), and the Hon. E. Mitchelson, of Auckland. Mr. M'Laren was a member of the First Wellington Military Service Board. Mr. Russell remarked that the appointment of Mr. M'Laren was practically a recognition of the right of Labour to be represented on a Commission which would deal with many matters of deep interest to the masse 6 of the people. The order of reference ■is to be submitted to Cabinet at its first full meeting after the holidays. THE POSITION AT WAIROA. Br Telesranh.—Preeß Association. Wairoa, December 21. The influenza ,among i the Europeans has been practically mastered. The District School temporary hospital was closed down yesterday. There are still forty cases in the. North' Clyde Native Hospital. Wliakaki reports fourteen patientsand thirty convalescents. The epidemic is abating everywhere, and the cases are milder.
