PIGEON TO THE RESCUE
FLYING OFFICERS' LIVES SAVED. A re'miirkablo instance of a carrier pieeon saving tho lives of two flying officers is reported from Scotland. 1 few days ago a seaplane engaged upon a submarine patrol over the North f-'ca was compelled to descend about five miles from the rocky Scottish coast, A heavy sea was running at the time, arid the machine was in momentary da.'ger of being dashed to pieces. Realising their peril, the airmen released a pigeon at i p.m., with an urgent message requesting immediate help. .Promptly at 4.22 the bird reached its loft, having traversed a' distance of twenty-two miles in twenty-two minutes. The arrival of the pigeon was tho first intimation the authorities received that anything, was amiss, and assistance was immediately sent, resulting in the saving of both officers.
When tire relief parly arrived the airmen were clinging to the wreckage cf tho machine, which was rapidly bi caking up.
