A SATISFACTORY YEAR, • The annual meoting of tho Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Society was; hektat Goober's room, Cuba Street, on Saturday evening The president of the society (Mr. J. Currie) was in the chnir, and there was a very zood attendance of members. The report stated that tnl;ing into 'consideration the unsettled stato of affairs generally owing to tho war. thfl finance's of tho society were exception-, ally good. The total receipts amounted t0',£293 Us. (id., and the year closed witli a credit balance of /:20 19s. 2rt. The'society has a membership of 85, an increase of 22 nn the previous year. Tho anmnl show, held in the first week in July, showed entries numbering 1002, an inei'ense of 2!)5 over the nreeoding ypnr, and tho standard of exhibits, according to competent authorities, was very high. The judges of the various sections gave their service* free.
The report and balance-sheet wcro adopted. On the motion .of Mr. T. Doig. cecoiulpel by Mr. A\ r . Dnvpy, tho rules were altered as follow:—"That rule 5 and a portion of rule. 15, bo struck out, mnl that the office.-s shall ha president, secretary, treasurer, four vice-presidents, with' a finance committee of foui , , who shall be elected at the annual meeting, and hold office for twelve month", and together with tho iiunncinl meinbrvs of thfl society, shall manage Hie affairs of the society, , but no expenditure niny bo expended other than that approved cf by Hie ofiic.ors of tho society nnd finance committee, and uo exnenditure. shall bn expended other than lli.it authorised by general meeting from time to time, and that tho. society shall be known under the • title of the 'Wellington Poultry, Pigeon. Canary, nnd Cat Society.'" 'A letter of condolence with Mv. GalHchan, one oF the oldest members of the society, in the loss of his wife, wm passed, and the meeting adjourned for a short period as a mark of respect.
