V.D. PATIENTS AT FEATHERSTON
Sir,-In answer to "Late Assistant Pathologist," he , need not fear that tlio Wairarapa people will not <lo all they cini for the poor unfortunate men who no doubt contracted this disease when away on duty in defence of their country " But what they do object to is to hove them in their midst in all stagesof disease. There may "not" be many cases of infection, tat the indirect results of this disease are too well known to he discussed here, and to be "diecharged" from Peatherston as cured means thai a great nunibor will remain,, in the district. That residents of a conntrv district should object to the establishment of such a canip as has been dumped down in their midst is no reflection on the patients, nor is it any evidence of inhumanity in the neighbours. It is merely the same expression of that natural instinct of self-preserva-tion that makes tho cjuuraiitinim? of disease compulsory, and that drives the authorities to precautions before the ravages of cholera or smallpox. Iho danger of contagion is not minimised by the fact that a man is getting better, and, that the chnuces of such contagion are few in a well-guarded city like Cairo is no argument at all lor planting the thing in n country district like the Wairaiapa.lalll, ° tC " HEALTHY DISTRICT. Wairarapa; December 20,1918.
