HUTT AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Lower TTutt. Borough Council met last evening, there being present, tho Mayor (Mr." E. P. Rishicortli) ami Councillors Hobbs, West, .L'err, Cotton, Brassel, Walton, Meldrum, and M'Dougall. It was agreed to accede to the request of a resident of Knight's Road that the footpaths be clennad. up. The local fire brigade wrote asking for long-service medals for Firemen Hutton and Wainer, each of whom have served the borough for five yunrs. It was unanimously agreed to procure the medals, which, the Jlayor will present. Complaint was made by Messrs. 0. Greeks and J. Tnglis if the dawiign eaiy--ed to the walls and contents of their dwellings through the method adopted bv thp bo'ron?h inspector in disinfectin?.—The inspector is to report.
The provision of public conveniences was discussed at some length. It was decided that the proprietor of the local theatre be called upon to have the work of erecting a convenience put in hand. The question of asking Hie Government to give its earnest nnd immediate consideration to the danger of infection at race meetings from influenza was discussed, and it was decided not to endorse the Waihi Borough Council's resolution on the subject, as the Government had taken full precautionary measures.
It was decided to support the Alexandra Borough Council's resolution expressing the opinion that the Public Health Department should undertake the control and care of nil incurable- tubercular cases.
A communication was received from the Minister of Internal AlVuirs advising that tho Government had decided that each local body should have- full liberty to make its own arrangements regardin;; peace rplobrntions,—'Received. The Borough Engineer reported that steps had been taken to remove Californiiin thistle and ragtvort. Minor reports on certain nroporlies »oro also mentioned. The report, was adopted. It was decided that thp engineer inspect every private septic lank in the borough once every year.
In two different shops (stales Ihe "Horjiilal," London) buns have been recently bought which had a strong flavour of turpentine. Examination led to the conviction that pinewood sawdust had been mixed with tho Hour.
