(Rec. December 20, 7.5 p.m.) London, December 18. The, Press , Bureau reports:—"ln view of the renewed attempt to create an estrangement between the military and the civilian authorities, it is officially stated that Sir Douglas Haig did not attend tho inter-Allied Conference in London in December with Marshal Foch and Jl. C'emenceai! owing to (he fact that the King was then visiting the Army. Sir Douglas Haig's present vi.-it is of a private character, but the Government, as soon us advised, immediately organised a public reception, nml Mr. Lloyd George altered his plans with reference, to the conference at Paris in order to attend (he reception. Regarding the suggestion that there ought to have been a vote of thanks to the Army, it was felt that the King's address befqre the prorogation expressed tho nation's gretitude to the fighting cervices in a formal and admirable manner, and the proper occasion for Parliament's thanks was when the new Parliament assembled.— Aus.-N.Z.
